The University of Glasgow has risen two places to 67th in the QS World University Rankings 2020, it was announced today.

Established since 2004, the QS Rankings analyse the following areas, broken down by weightings:

  • academic reputation – evaluation the perceptions of academics from around the world regarding the best institutions in terms of research - (40%);
  • employer reputation – based on the views of employers around the world on the institutions providing the best professionals. For the 2020 edition, around 45,000 responses were analysed - (10%);
  • faculty student – the ratio between the number of academic staff and the number of students (20%);
  • citations per faculty – a measure of the average number of citations obtained per faculty member, which is an estimate of the impact and quality of the scientific work produced – 20%);
  • international faculty – based on the proportion of faculty members that are international (5%);
  • international students – based on the proportion of students that are international (5%).
  • Glasgow’s strongest indicator was for the “international students” category, in which it was 67th across the rankings: it also performed well in “faculty student” – up 27 places; and academic reputation – up 1.

The QS rankings cover 1,620 institutions across the world, 88 of which are from the UK.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli said: “While rankings must be treated with a degree of caution, I am delighted to see the University of Glasgow being recognised on the international stage as a world-leading university.”
